Reception Class make jam tarts!

Reception Class had a lovely Monday morning this week full of exciting activities. First they learnt a new poem by Lewis Carroll called the 'Queen of Hearts', and then they made some tarts themselves. It fitted in perfectly with several areas of their learning, particularly Problem Solving, Reasoning, Communication, Language and Literacy, and Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
They learnt a new recipe and understood that we measure small quantities of butter and flour in grams, and that we combine different ingredients to make the end product. They also used their senses as they all helped to make the pastry. Decision making was needed as they chose between apricot and strawberry jam for their tart. Despite all the fabulous things they had been learning, the children were more than delighted that they got to eat the tart at the end of it!
